A Resonance guide to brand origins

Understanding our Flag Icons

At Resonance, we know that today’s shoppers care deeply about where their products come from—and we’re listening. That’s why we’ve introduced a simple way to identify the origins of the brands we carry, right in our navigation menu.

We hope this feature makes your shopping experience even better. Our goal is to provide transparency, fair pricing, and a carefully curated selection that reflects what matters most to our customers.

Shopping Canadian is Complicated

We’re committed to helping you navigate the complexities of shopping Canadian, but the reality is that very few brands are 100% Canadian-made — materials and manufacturing are deeply interconnected across global markets.

What truly matters is making purchases that mostly benefit Canada, rather than searching for brands that exclusively do. That’s nearly impossible. Even brands that design and manufacture in Canada often source fabric, fasteners, hardware, or labels from elsewhere.

Some of the U.S.-designed brands we carry contribute very little to the U.S. economy and aren’t subject to tariffs because their brand rights are held in Canada by a Canadian company — and they’re not made in the U.S. This means that the vast majority of what you spend stays right here in our economy.

Realignment Takes Time

We plan our collections 8 to 10 months in advance, meaning some of the American brands we currently carry were ordered before tariffs were imposed, and their pricing remains unchanged.

With tariffs now impacting Canadian wallets and with the current political climate influencing how you feel about the origins of the brands you wear, we’re closely tracking shifts in shopping habits. We appreciate your patience as we navigate these changes and respond thoughtfully in the months ahead.

Using the Brand Navigation Menu

You may have already noticed small flag icons in our brand navigation menu — these are there to help you quickly identify the origins of the brands we feature on our website.

To see what we're talking about, go to our main menu at the top of this page. Click on the Brands drop down menu. You will see an alphabetical list of our brands. Each brand name has a flag beside it.

What Do the Flags Represent?

We’ve carefully researched the origins of each brand and use flag icons to indicate where they come from. This helps our customers make informed choices about the products they purchase.

  • Canadian Flag 🇨🇦 — This brand originates in Canada, meaning its products are designed, made, or headquartered here. Sometimes products are manufactured in other countries, sometimes here.

  • U.S. Flag 🇺🇸 — This brand originates in the United States. Products may or may not be subject to tariffs depending on where they are manufactured.

  • Canadian and U.S. Flags 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 — When you see both flags, it means that the American brand is imported by a Canadian company directly from the country where it was manufactured and is not impacted by tariffs

  • Global flags 🇩🇰 🇩🇪 🇦🇺 — Some of our brands hail from places like Denmark, Germany, the U.K., and Australia.

Why Does This Matter?

Understanding where brands come from helps our customers:

  • Support Canadian brands — If you prefer to shop Canadian, our flag system makes it easier to find homegrown brands.

  • Buy European and Australian brands — It's not always possible to buy Canadian. Our flag system can help you choose European and Australian brands, which offer high quality products, but with no added tariffs.

  • Avoid tariffs on directly imported U.S. brands — Not all imported U.S. goods face additional costs. In our brands list, you’ll see certain brands marked with both Canadian and U.S. flags. This means their products are licensed by a Canadian company and imported directly from the country of manufacture, avoiding added tariffs.

  • Make informed decisions — Whether you have a preference for Canadian-made products or want to know more about the global supply chain, these icons offer clarity.

This is an ongoing process, and we’d love your feedback—how are you navigating shopping for clothes right now? For some, supporting Canadian or European brands is a priority, while others are more focused on finding the best value. Some simply wish to continue wearing long-trusted brands.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and we want to understand what matters most to you. Your input will help us make better decisions about the brands we carry and how we adapt in this changing retail landscape. Let us know where you stand!

Happy shopping,

The Resonance Team
